Having mainly been in the wholesale business, Scentsational Soaps & Candles wanted to increase revenue within their e-commerce channel. Their old site was very outdated and in need of a facelift from both a visual and technical perspective.

The website for Scentsational Soaps & Candles was described to us as "old, dated, and brutal" during our initial strategy calls with the client. Our goal was to bring the site up to date in terms of design and functionality using a Woocommerce build on Wordpress and to design the UI with a clean and minimal approach.
After conducting our initial kickoff meeting with Scentsational Soaps & Candles we found that their main competition could be found in the same place they were wholesaling to (Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Home Goods). As for their e-commerce channel, Goose Creek, Home Worx, DW Home, and The Wooden Wick were their largest obstacles to overcome in their market. After reviewing their websites, we found that they all shared similar methodologies in getting their products in front of their customers and all showcased their products in large, high resolution photography in order to draw attention.
Through experience and research, our team decided that the best approach for the updated website was to separate their products into category buckets and sale buckets. Considering their limited product variety we wanted users to be able to filter the products by fragrance type and collection type. As for sales by Scentsational, the client wanted to separate those into Best Sellers and Sale Items. The new website was laid out to allow the user to navigate to their favorite products and narrow down their search with ease.
The designs for Scentsational Soaps & Candles focused on clean and minimalistic user interface. This was achievable thanks to the simple typefaces that were chosen to represent the brand. Our intention was to allow the product photography to speak for itself in order to convey the variety and complexity of fragrances that they offered.
I took some inspiration from perfume and cologne websites and how their fragrance notes and other key information was include for every product type. I felt that this information was extremely relevant for the candle industry and encouraged our client to provide this information for every product.
This project was very easy to QA in terms of design and functionality. Our developers did a great job making sure all of the smaller details were taken care of. When the website launched, our client was thrilled with the overall response and couldn't be happier with the improved design.
I loved working on this project since I have a personal love for fragrances and colognes. I felt that this interest allowed me to put a piece of myself into my design, which results in a beautiful piece of art.
